New Delhi, September 6 : The interrogation of Rhea Chakraborty, who has been named in the FIR in the death case of Sushant Singh Rajput, is being conducted by the Narcotics Control Bureau officials at their headquarters in Mumbai.
The actress reached the NCB headquarters earlier today. She was accompanied by Mumbai Police officers. Three cars of Mumbai Police escorted the actress to the NCB office. The actress didn’t respond to any questions by the media people outside the NCB headquarters.
Rhea Chakraborty is being grilled about her medical history. The NCB officials asked her if she is on any medication or she has been taking any medicines of late. NCB senior officer KPS Malhotra has also reached the NCB headquarters for the questioning.
During her questioning, Rhea Chakraborty said that she had never consumed drugs. She was confronted with the WhatsApp chats in which she is asking her brother Showik to arrange drugs. The actress was also being confronted with the statements of Samuel Miranda, Showik and Dipesh Sawant, who have been arrested by the NCB.
After being confronted with the statements, Rhea might be confronted with Dipesh Sawant, Showik and Samuel Miranda.
According to sources, Rhea Chakraborty is giving answers to certain questions in a way that suggests she has been tutored. She has also been evasive during the questioning. There sre strong possibilities that she might be arrested today.
Rhea was officially summoned by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in the drugs conspiracy today morning. A team of NCB officials and Mumbai Police officers reached the actress’s home on Sunday morning. Mumbai NCB Chief Sameer Wankhede led the team serving summons to Rhea.
On Friday, Rhea’s brother Showik Chakraborty and Sushant Singh Rajput’s house manager, Samuel Miranda, were arrested in connection with a case concerning procurement and consumption of illegal drugs.
Rhea Chakraborty’s lawyer, Satish Maneshinde, said that the actress is ready for an arrest. He said, “Rhea is ready for an arrest as this is a witch-hunt.”
In a statement, Rhea said, “Loving someone is not a crime. I will face consequences for love. Being innocent I have not approached court for anticipatory bail in all cases foisted by Bihar Police with CBI, ED & NCB.”
According to sources, two senior officers of the NCB, Samir Wankhede and KPS Malhotra, will lead the team grilling Rhea Chakraborty today. She will be shown the CDR details of her WhatsApp chats. Sources say that she can be arrested, if she will not be able to give satisfactory answers to the NCB officials’ questions.
The NCB team might video record Rhea Chakraborty’s questioning.
Meanwhile, Sushant Singh Rajput’s sister, Meetu Singh, reached the DRDO guest house to record her statements with the CBI. On Saturday, she accompanied the CBI officials to Sushant’s Bandra flat to recreate the scene.
The NCB is conducting raids at various areas in Bandra and Santa Cruz in Mumbai. The raids are being conducting on the basis of Showik Chakraborty’s statements. Showik named many drug peddlers, who are being nabbed by the NCB now. The agency got names of some of the drug peddlers from Showik Chakraborty’s chats.
The NCB questioned Rajput’s housekeeper Dipesh Sawant overnight and a source in the agency said he divulged information pointing to Rhea’s role in procurement of illegal drugs. A team of the NCB accompanied by local police is arrived at Rhea’s home on Sunday in order to issue summons or ask her to join the probe.
Showik Chakraborty, Rhea’s brother, was taken into custody after questioning on Friday. He reportedly admitted to buying drugs at Rhea’s behest. Sushant Singh Rajput’s house manager, Samuel Miranda, was also arrested on the same day after he told NCB that he arranged weed for the actor from September 2019 to March 2020.
In his statement, Miranda said Showik Chakraborty asked him to procure weed for Sushant Singh Rajput and he did so from one Zaid Vilatra. A 5-gram weed drug was bought for Rs 10,000 in March by Miranda.
Both Showik and Samuel have been sent to NCB custody till September 9.
On Saturday, after the arrest of Showik Chakraborty, his father, Lt Col (retd.) Indrajit Chakraborty in a statement said, “Congratulations India, you have arrested my son, I’m sure next on the line is my daughter and I don’t know who is next thereafter.”
“You have effectively demolished a middle-class family. But of course, for the sake of justice, everything is justified. Jai Hind,” he added.
Apart from the NCB, Rhea is also being probed by the Central Bureau of Intelligence (CBI) for allegedly abetting the suicide of Sushant Singh Rajput. A complaint was filed in this regard against her by Sushant’s father KK Singh.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is also investigating Rhea Chakraborty after Sushant Singh Rajput’s family accused her of misappropriating the late actor’s finances.
Sushant Singh Rajput was found hanging at his Mumbai home on June 14. Rhea Chakraborty was living with him till June 8 when she left after the couple had an argument and Sushant’s sister moved in. It is still unclear what led to Sushant Singh Rajput taking the extreme step, however, reports and statements from his doctors have indicated that the actor was battling mental illness.
