Kathmandu, March 26 : In a meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) today, Durga Rai of CPN (Maoist Centre) demanded that the government sit for talks with those protesting against the name of ‘Koshi’ province and find a solution to the matter accordingly.
Airing his views in a special hour of the session, he drew the government’s attention towards an incident in which Lajehang Limbu (Padam Limbu) was injured and died in course of the protest against the naming. He demanded the government declare Limbu a martyr and ensure a proper compensation to his family.
“This is a political issue concerning all political parties,” he said. Rastriya Swatantra Party’s Nisha Dangi questioned when the HoR regulations would be passed and when the parliamentary committee would be formed. Dangi also apprised the House about quotas lying vacant in the Jhapa-based Bhadrapur Hospital, thus hampering the service delivery.
Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) lawmaker Deepak Bahadur Singh said hundreds of thousands of youths are compelled to go abroad in search of employment due to the lack of job opportunities at home and urged the government to bring special programme for employment generation.
Nawal Kishor Saha Sudi of Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal rued that the country has to import food grains worth billions although a large chunk of the nation’s population being involved in agriculture as they were not getting appropriate subsidies from the State and seed and fertilizers in time.
He also urged the government to bring the bill related to citizenship at the earliest as hundreds of thousands of Nepalis are deprived of citizenship. CPN (Unified Socialist)’s Bhanubhakta Joshi called attention of the government, saying the locals of Bajhang have not yet been provided with compensation for their houses damaged by the earthquake. He also demanded that the government provide compensation to the people in the district who were rendered homeless and lost their cultivable land due to the untimely rains recently.
Dr Chandra Kant Raut of Janamat Party said women’s representation could not be ensured in the recently-held election of the Vice President although the spirit of the Constitution has clearly stipulated that one among the President and the Vice President should be a woman.
Nagarik Unmukti Party’s MP Ranjita Shrestha sarcastically said that looking at the working style of the state apparatuses it appeared to her that her term as a lawmaker would be over merely putting forth her party’s demands. Prem Suwal of Nepal Workers and Peasants Party demanded regulating the unsystematic open border to check unwanted activities taking place at the border.
