Karnali, Jan 2 : The first meeting of the Province Assembly (PA) in Karnali Province since the election of the new PA members has convened here on Monday where members expressed their commitment to fight against poverty, hunger and disease.
In the first meeting of the PA’s second term in the Province, they reaffirmed their commitment to move ahead in unison against poverty, hunger and diseases although they were representing various political parties.
Nepali Congress Province Assembly party leader Jeevan Bahadur Shahi argued that the need of the hour was for the people’s representatives to tackle all sorts of challenges in Karnali Province rather than locking horns with any particular political parties or the provincial government.
Underscoring formulation of better and effective Act and laws, Shahi extended his best wishes to all the newly elected PA members and wished them a successful tenure.
Similarly, CPN (UML) Karnali Province leader Yam Lal Kandel said that this term of PA should be more result-oriented since previous term had already laid a foundation for delivery from government.
He denounced the tendency of corruption rather than delivering on development works in Karnali Province. CPN (Maoist Centre) Karnali Province Assembly leader Raj Kumar Sharma asserted that current leadership should protect the present system achieved after people’s war, people’s movement over various period. He underlined the common resolve to fight against poverty.
Rastriya Prajatantra Party Karnali Province Assembly member Santoshi Shahi, CPN (Unified Socialist) Province Assembly member Kalyani Khadka and independent province assembly member Devendra Shahi highlighted the need for coordination, collaboration and solidarity to work on peace, development and prosperity for the Karnali Province.
During the maiden meeting, senior PA member Binod Kumar Shah proposed to nominate Hikmat Bista, Bhim Prakash Sharma and Jit Bahadur Malla to chair the meeting of the Province Assembly in absence of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker. The proposal was unanimously approved by the PA. The PA in Karnali Province is meeting next on January 9.
