Jhapa, Jan 1 : A herd of wild elephants has attacked an elderly couple, killing 61-year-old woman and leaving her husband Shantiram Bhandari, 71, critically injured at Shiva Satakshi Municipality-11 in Jhapa last night.
According to Superintendent of Police (SP) in Jhapa District Police Office, Durga Regmi, the couple was attacked by four elephants in the night as the elderly couple was sleeping at home.
Police said that 61-year-old Krishna Maya Bhandari died on Sunday morning while receiving treatment at Amda Hospital in Damak. It is said that the terror of elephants has increased lately, causing loss of lives and property.
The elephants coming from India and the nearby jungle within the district have caused havoc on public life, killing two persons and leaving five others injured in the past one month.
