Implementation of ‘women first’ programme speeds up

Kathmandu, Dec 24 : The Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens has expedited the implementation of the ‘women first’ programme. Under the programme that aims to accord first priority to women from home to political party and to state power, the Ministry has allocated budget at 60 local levels in the country.

As part of it, campaign on reduction of violence against women and the programme to increase their leadership capacity have been also launched.

Under the women safety service programme, a call center has been set up with police assistance wherein a vehicle upon a call can reach out to a woman in need of help while walking at night, and drop her home safely.

A total of 132 pregnant women were rescued from rural areas in 14 months after the line minister Uma Regmi assumed office, it has been said. The Ministry has also launched ‘Let’s start from home to end violence against women’ campaign.

The National Child Policy 2079, Child related Regulations 2078 and the Convention on the Rights of the Child (seventh updated report) have been implemented after their approval from the Cabinet.

The five-year strategy of the National Child Rights Council has been brought. The Bill, 2079 to amend the Senior Citizens Act, 2063 has been passed from the parliament.
