Kathmandu, Feb 10 : The district chapter of the National Federation of Right to Information (RTI-Federation) is to run a RTI campaign for good governance.
At an interactive training organized by the Federation’s Kathmandu chapter here today, it was shared that a public awareness generating programme would be implemented to push to designate information officers, place citizen charter and demand information in all wards of 11 local governments of the district.
In order to better implement the RTI, the district chapter was running a campaign in a way to support the National Information Commission and local governments to that end.
On the occasion, information commissioner Ratna Prasad Mainali said citizens can contribute to promote good governance by requesting information of individual and public concern from public agencies. He shared the NIC was receiving only 1000 to 1500 appeals annually demanding attainment of information.
He asked RTI campaigners to increase information seeking culture among the people. As shared the NIC has directed the governments to disclose reports provided by various probe commissions formed during different times.
Federation’s Kathmandu Valley Province Chair Tara Bahadur Bhandari said effective campaign in the areas of RTI in Kathmandu would impart a positive message across the country.
The training was attended by the office-bearers and members of the Kathmandu district committee and coordinators of all 11 local level units of the Valley.
