Kathmandu, Jan 14 : ‘Satta Sangharsha’ (Power Struggle), a book written by journalist Ram Krishna Bhandari was launched here today.

Nepali Congress general-secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa, CPN (Maoist Centre)’s deputy general-secretary Pradeep Kumar Gyawali, CPN (Unified Socialist) leader Garima Shah and political analyst Hari Sharma jointly launched the book amid a programme.

The book chronicles the major political events of the country since 30 years during which 28 governments were formed and some were dissolved too.

The book published by the Shangri-la Media Group Pvt Ltd. is priced at Rs 675. The newly launched book documents political changes, political manipulation and bickering and power struggle among others since 2046 BS through 2074 BS.

The book stated that a majority of the governments formed since 2046 BS could not sustain throughout its tenure due to implied interests of the political leaders in toppling government rather than working for the greater good of the country.

Major political incidents are incorporated under various titles such as the ‘Das Dhunga’, ‘Afnai Party Mathi Antarghat (Intra-party sabotage), “Congress ko kaandh ma Surya Bahadur Thapa’ (Surya Bahadur Thapa at the behest of Congress), ‘Kisunji Mathi Arko Ghat’ (Another betrayal on Kisunji”, ‘Bintipatra le Badnam’ (Defamed due to request letter), ‘Sambidhan Sabha Nirwachan’ (Constituent Assembly election) and ‘Ganatantra Ghosana’ (Announcement of Republic System) among others.

Making public the book, NC general-secretary Thapa said that challenge for political stability would always loom unless there were changes in the structure of political parties, membership distribution and internal governance practice, among others.

He asserted, “In democratic system, we all should practice remaining within the limitations of laws. To go by the rule, the opposition party could not lend support to the Prime Minister.

This matter should be discussed covertly and transparently. Efforts should be made from all sides to make this parliament a place to offer resolutions to country’s issues.

” UML deputy general-secretary Gyawali said the 30-year experience had also nudged the government, parliament and political structure towards policy and systemic stability. “We learned from past experience that political stability was not possible unless there was common minimum understanding among the forward-looking forces.

The economic, infrastructural and prosperity related agendas have been shadowed while laying emphasis on politics. Now is the time to advance these agenda”.

CPN (Unified Socialist) leader Shah said the book was a reference to know the historical anecdotal events, reflect present day learning and take inspiration for future.

Political analyst Sharma said the book has vividly illustrated power struggle of the time noting history never moved ahead in a simplistic way.

Book writer Bhandari said the events he observed and reported during his over two-decade experience in journalism, published books, reports, interviews and self-study were the key source of the information of his book.
