New Delhi, Jan 16 : AIIMS Delhi vaccinated the first person in India against the novel coronavirus as PM Narendra Modi launched the world’s biggest inoculation drive in the country.

The world’s biggest inoculation programme against the novel coronavirus infection has started in India as the country began vaccinating its high-risk healthcare workers. The vaccination drive has been planned in a phased manner, identifying priority groups. The first phase of India’s coronavirus vaccination drive started at 11 am across several cities in India.

Coronavirus Vaccination in India LIVE Updates: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanth witnessed coronavirus vaccine administration at Balrampur hospital in Lucknow. “102 health workers would receive the vaccine at the hospital today, out of which 15 people have been given so far and every one of them is totally fine,” Adityanath said.

Coronavirus Vaccination in India LIVE Updates: Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal reached the LNJP Hospital as the vaccination drive began in the national capital. Speaking to reporters, Arvind Kejriwal said India will get rid of coronavirus soon enough. Arvind Kejriwal also said every day in Delhi, a total of 8,100 people will be vaccinated.

Arvind Kejriwal said, “The coronavirus vaccination drive has started across India. In Delhi, vaccines will be given across 81 centres. So far, eight people have been vaccinated in LNJP Hospital and 30 more are waiting their turn. I have spoken with the people who have received the vaccine. They did not experience any side-effects so far. We will get rid of coronavirus soon.” Kejriwal said, “In Delhi, people will be vaccinated at 1,000 centres.”

8,100 people will get the vaccine at 81 vaccination centres in Delhi. I appeal to the people not to pay heed to rumours. Experts have said that the vaccines are safe.

Serum Institute of India CEO Adar Poonawalla takes the Covishield vaccine. In a tweet, Poonawalla has said, “I wish India & Sri Narendra Modi ji great success in launching the world’s largest COVID vaccination roll-out. It brings me great pride that COVISHIELD is part of this historic effort & to endorse it’s safety & efficacy, I join our health workers in taking the vaccine myself.”

Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan says, “Safety of people has always been paramount. Phase 3 trials of Covaxin are ongoing. It has been subjected to ample and adequate scrutiny. After seeing the results, experts have given the approval. There is no need for any fear. We have to be absolutely fearless, and sure of the safety of this vaccine and also have to be patient.”

“Everyone has to wait for his/her turn. In one go, every person in the country cannot be vaccinated. There is no difference between the two vaccines. Both are equally safe and effective. They haven’t been divided for administering in terms of any category,” said Harsh Vardhan.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and Health Minister Satendar Jain have reached the LNJP Hospital to launch Delhi government’s vaccination drive.

Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh says, “I am very happy that the Covid-19 vaccination drive has begun, we have started with the health workers and it will gradually come down to other people. I’ve written to the PM to request free vaccine for the lower-income group.”
