KANGANA RANAUT’S LAWYER RESPONDS TO MUMBAI POLICE SUMMONS

“I have responded to the summons and sought time after 15th of November. Police have received my reply to their summons on behalf of my clients. Process of law is being followed to ensure no prejudice is caused to anyone,” said Siddiquee.

WHY WERE KANGANA RANAUT AND RANGOLI CHANDEL SUMMONED BY MUMBAI POLICE?

The summons were issued by the Bandra police on October 20. The sisters had been directed to come to Bandra Police Station on October 26-27 to record their statements in connection with a case registered against them for allegedly promoting enmity between communities through their remarks. The case was registered after a Bandra Metropolitan Magistrate had asked the Mumbai Police to probe a complaint filed by Munawwar Ali Sayyed, a Bollywood casting director and fitness trainer. In his complaint, Sayyed referred to the social media posts by Kangana Ranaut and her sister.

Munawwar Ali Sayyed had accused Kangana Ranaut of posting comments which were “very objectionable” and it not only hurt his religious sentiments but also the feelings of other artists in Bollywood. As directed by court, an FIR against Kangana Ranaut and her sister, Rangoli Chandel, was registered under sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, etc), 295A (deliberate acts hurting religious sentiments) and 124-A (sedition), 34 (common intention) of IPC.

WHAT DID KANGANA RANAUT’S LAWYER SAY?

Rizwan Siddiquee refused to further disclose contents of his reply stating, “Process of law will continue to be followed at every stage to respond, protect and defend my clients. However it is not prudent to share all details on public platform.”

The Bandra Police Station has not yet responded to the reply of the actor and her sister. (India Today)
